Hi, Could someone please advise if they know of any cheap hostel / hotels in Padang.
We have searched online but the cheapest we've found is £25 per night!
This is way over our budget!
While I was travelling and staying around Sumatra, I generally found that the Wisma Loseman, locally run guesthouses gave you a much more friendly vibe/ atmosphere during your stay compared to a higher standard of accommodation where you were sometimes seen as just another visitor. The families I stayed with really made you feel like part of the family and were happy to offer advise about places to visit or eat in the local area.
Nearly all guesthouses in Sumatra offer you breakfast in the price of the room. I found that this was either a cooked breakfast or fresh fruit with a hot drink (tea or coffee.)
For your stay in Padang, here are a few places that you could stay at during your time in and around the town;
- Immanuel Hotel prices from £10-20 - centrally located but with simple rooms and garden.
- Spice Homestay prices from £10-£23 - Balinese styled, located in the centre of town with nicely decorated rooms.
- Sriwijaya Hotel prices from £18-£24 - a higher standard of accommodation with a modern feel to the rooms, with courtyard.
Hope this helps.
Hi,
Not sure why you choose to stay in Padang- why not head up to Bukittinggi - 2 hrs by bus- so much cooler than Padang and loads of accomodation.
Hotel Kartini in Bukittinggi is lovely, but there are loads to choose from.
If you would like some help with getting accomodation in Bukittinggi email my Indonesian guide friend Hendri would be able to help.
He is a well respected guide in Bukittinggi.
If you would like some maps of West Sumatra send me a private message for Hendri's details and your email for me to forward you the maps.
Pamela.
