If travelling by car from cairns please remember that it is a really long journey! but doable.
While in cairns probably 5days no more, travel to port douglas and take a tour of the great barrier reef!
Then down to Brisbane, 3 days
Then gold coast 3 days, then sydney,
Sydney 10 days. I say ten days casue you can go southto canberra, also east to blue mountains, and you will need 4-5 days travelling sydney.
I do recomend tat you think about going to Melbourne for 10days. Virgin blue, tiger and jetstar all have very cheap airfares. Train takes about 14hrs, and the bus is even longer than that.
While in melbourne discover the yarra valley, grampians, ballarat, great ocean road, yarra river, eureka sky deck, MCG and the city centre, home to great food and markets
