I'm backpacking through Europe in May/June 2011, and for some parts of it I want to sleep in an airport. This would only be in cases where I'm spending one day in the city, because:
-I want to see as much as I can in the one day that I'm there, and therefore I'll probably be out exploring late
-I will be getting a train/plane to my next destination early the next morning, so I will have to wake up early to make it to the station/airport
-If I will be out late and I have to get up early, I'd rather not go through the trouble of booking a hostel and have to waste my cash to pay the balance, when I'm hardly going to be there anyway (Assuming I'm were to get back at midnight, and I wake up at 5 to leave my hostel at 6, it would only be 5 hours of sleep...not worth paying for the hostel when I could go somewhere else for the "nap," as it really isn't a full nights sleep)
The 'Sleepinginairports.net' website you mention, is an excellent start to making decisions on your overnight stop-out.
Generally, I've not had any underlying problems when getting my head down overnight in airports. The only place where they've been grumpy - is in the USA. I don't know what it is with that lot out there, but more than once I've had the third degree from some 'Jobsworth' bimbo. I've never been told to leave though.
My normal strategy, if I've got a (say) 06:00-08:00 departure - is to have a few drinks locally, not in the airport - then make my way there about midnight, with either a good book or cryptic crossword. Maybe a couple of coffees in the terminal - or one beer, if there's anywhere open, but I don't like spending my hard earned wedge on inflated priced refreshments that aren't worth the mark-up.
By the time I've done a few chapters, or half the clues - it's time to go through.
Your best bet for checking out the specific airports you mention here - is to get on to a forum where the people have first hand info on them.
Different airports, different policies - the world over.

@flyingbob thanks so much for the tips. i figured that maybe if i named the cities in question, people who have answers/tips to my question may have info from experience in those specific airports, but was just really looking for general information.
i will look for specific forums now. but my exact idea was a book/ipod game/puzzle book for most of the time and to not sleep too long, since i will be alone and don't want to worry about things being stolen. thank you!
