I'm such a novice

Where are you going?

What is your budget like for accommodation each night? Even expensive hotels can have bedbugs. The bedbugs aren't made by the hotels they come in with their customers.

If the places you are intending on staying in are so cheap they can't provide sheets bedbugs will be the least of your worries!

I wouldn't want to carry some stupid sleeping bag everywhere I went. For the holiday of a lifetime maybe spending a little more on a room would be better.

Some tourists that stay in crappy cheap places have sleep sacks which take up less room. You can make a cheap sleep sack out of a sheet by folding it in half and sewing the bottom and halfway up one side.

Where are you going and what is your budget for hotels?

I think if I was staying in really cheap places without air I would have my own pillowcase. No telling how many liters of drool, sweat and other fluids have soaked the pillow already!

i took one for a 7 month trip never used it once and sent it back in a parcel so nope dont bother

Pick up a sarong when you get here. They are great multi-taskers.
