Chiang Mai - Koh Tao

Hey Guys,
Does anybody know if you can get a train from Chiang Mai straight to Suart Thani? I know it would probably take about 24 hours or something, and I could get two night trains, but just wondering if the option was available.
Cheers.

You will need to take 2 trains. One from CM to Bangkok and one from Bangkok to Surit Thani. Check out www.seat61.com

After logging out I decided to check the seat61 site. I wasn't able to get the Thai timetable in english. In the past I've used http://www.railway.co.th/english/index.asp but I've had no success accessing that tonight even via a link from a travel website.

You can always get the bus, over night bus from Chiangmai to Bangkok is about 10 hours and costs roughly £11. then get a bus from bangkok down south. they are usually pretty easy to get a seat on and so cheap. any travel agent will be able to do it for you but make sure you are aware of prices so you dont over pay.

From Bangkok to suratthani there are a lot of buses every day at 6 o'clock in the afternoon from kao San Road, the turistic part of the city.

From Kao San Road you can get diferent prices for the trip, don't pay more than 550 baths with the ferry included to the islands ( Koh Tao, Koh Samui or Koh Panghan). you will arrive to suratthani about 5 o'clock in the morning.

safe trip
