all depends of the cities, you would like to visit. one day for Petersburg and Moscow is anoth, if you know much about russian culture and history. But to my mind, it would be more helpful stay in this two cities more than just for a day.

Well I am currently planning 3/4 days in St. Petersburg and 3/4 Moscow ... really would like to know how many days one needs to see the Golden Ring to get a good taste/feel for it. Thanks for the links to the Apartments for rental in Moscow, that is helpful. I am staying in a private home in St. Petersburg - so I have that part of the stay covered.

No, have not left yet, I leave first week of September.
IMHO
Thre are 1 day tours to the Golden Ring, but you'll see only one city. There are also 2-3 days and I think this is a better option- you get to see more and you are not in such a hurry.
thanks ... I'm currently planning a 2 day excursion out to Vladimir and Suzdal.
I have 3 days in Moscow ... not a lot, but enough to hit the highlights and even the Moscow circus. I am not one for formal tour groups so this trip is not about booking tour group things ... I am resourceful enough to walk and travel to places on my own.
