San Blas Islands First Hand Info

Going to Panama in April and the San Blas Islands seem to be worth checking out and would like some first hand info. Of the the two options of either staying at an island lodge or sailing around the islands the sail trips seem to have very inconsistent reviews with only a handful of options. The tough thing is that the reviews are 50/50 and hard to get a read on. The lodges get much better reviews. I fully realize that the region is "rustic" and off the beaten path, so I'm just looking for some good, accurate intel. Did the Galapagos this year and did day trips instead of sailing and would love to try a sailing trip. My wife and I are past our "backpacker" days so a modicum of luxury is always a plus.
Thanks, RB

I visited one of the islands and did a $10 boat ride around a number of others.

It was tiny (about two hundred yards long) with a main street and habitations, all about a foot above sea level. There was a few shops for locals and other than when a cruise ship looks in, I should imagine the place is dead. I don't know if there was any tourist accommodation there since space was at a great premium for a place that was really little more than a raft of sorts.

The other islands if they could be called that were so small just had a few local houses on. The Panama coast was very close by.
