SE Asia route help / advice!?!

Hi Guys,

Sounds like an reasonable schedule. Any of those countries can easily consume a month or two of your time depending on how off the beaten paths you like to go. I'd probably give Cambodia the least time of the three if you are staying more towards the easier path of travel as the infrastructure is the least developed of the three.

Figuring out the best route really depends on a number of things like if you intend to fly between countries or do the bus/train route. It also depends on where you plan on starting. Usually you find better airfares into Bangkok as it's one of the three major hubs in SE asia. So I'd probably either start or end there - but in my opinion I've found the best airfares to OZ usually take you via Singapore.

You might want to look for some cheap airfares via some of the discount airlines can sometimes be surprisingly low. I've gotten $15 flights between Bangkok and HCM and $30 to Phnom Penh on Air Asia in the past, and there are a lot of discount airlines in the area. You don't get to sleep on the buses, but you save a ton of time and don't get scammed by the bus drivers and where they drop you at a guesthouse owned by someone who kicks back to them. The longer you look ahead, the more likely you are to find a bargain.

Personally I'd plan 3-4 weeks for Vietnam, 2 weeks for Cambodia and spend the rest of the time in Thailand, or maybe add in Laos or a limited glimpse of Myanmar.
