Hi,
Hi Gijs,
I think the artsy neighbourhoods in Hamburg you're looking for are "Schanzenviertel" around S-Bahn Sternschanze, the area close to U-Bahn Feldstr. in particular "Marktstr." and Ottensen, which is close to S-Bahn Altona.
In all of these places you will find great little shops, good restaurants and cool bars and cafés.
Although I no longer live in Hamburg here's a list of my favorite places:
Schanzenviertel:
Breakfast: Saal II
Schulterblatt 83, 20357 Hamburg, Germany
Great café that turns into a funky bar at night.
Shopping:
Zardoz
Schulterblatt 36, 20357 Hamburg, Germany
Have a wide range of new and 2nd hand Cds, vinyl, DVDs and books.
Restaurant:
Balutschistan
Schulterblatt 88, 20357 Hamburg, Germany
Yummy Persian treats!
Feldstr. area:
Breakfast:
Kaffee Klatsch
Glashüttenstraße 17, 20357 Hamburg
Really small but cozy café with yummy breakfast!
Bar/Nightclub:
Gruener Jaeger
Neuer Pferdemarkt 36 20359 Hamburg, Germany
Indie club, sometimes great gigs
Uebel & Gefaehrlich:
Feldstr. 66, in the Bunker, 20359 Hamburg
Pretty cool location for a night club as it is in an old bunker
Have experienced great nights there, but really depends on the DJs
Ottensen:
Aurel:
Bahrenfelder Straße 157, 22765 Hamburg, Germany
Nice café/bar, serve great coffee
Veg out:
Bahrenfelder Str. 212, 22765 Hamburg
Great vegetarian take-away for lunch
Elbfisch:
Bahrenfelder Straße 88, 22765 Hamburg
Alternative to the veggie lunch. Great restaurant to eat fish or at least "Fischbrötchen" (Fish in a bread roll .
Hope this helps as a start.
Steff
