I stayed at a place called Candidassa (sp) for a week in Bali after Kuta and it was a pleasant contrast. Could be worth a shout. The nearest cash point is a 40 minute moped journey each way though so be prepared!!
I would definitely like to suggest Bali Barat National Park for nature lovers here you can see the barking deer and unique leopards of Bali.
For accommodation I would like to suggest that Denpasar is the best area for accommodation in Bali.
