im planning on doing the east coast in april time. apparently the greyhound bus is the best way to travel, and i think you will meet plenty of other people...
regarding places to go, i think the whitsundays and fraser island are must sees! dunno what else you can recommend?

I second Fraser Island, my husband and I just had a day trip there in June while we were staying in Noosa and thoroughly enjoyed it. Of course its a long day and fast-paced visit when you're doing it as a day trip but you can also go for one of the camping tour options and stay overnight. Good photography and wildlife spotting, and a pretty fun trip in the 4WD vehicle over some rather rough terrain at times. Noosa is a nice place to kick back for a couple of days if you need some chill out time along your way too, its laid-back and beachy. The Gold Coast, right at the south of QLD is very popular with all kinds of travellers and has heaps to keep you entertained if you have the money to spend - several big theme parks, all sorts of casino and nightlife options, theatre and shows, adventure activites - basically you'll find some of everything on the Gold Coast, plus the weather is pretty darned good too.
