Hey- I will be heading over to SE Asia early March after being in NZ. I am also travelling solo, flying into Bangkok. I want to focus on Vietnam this time round and spend about 3 weeks there and also split my time in Thailand around that as I am planning on flying out from Bangkok too!
I know I won't get all I want to cover done in SE Asia so just going to touch on them two! How about you-any ideas of where you may head?
You will be sure to meet people at hostels etc too- so don't be too nervous! Plus planning too far ahead can take some of the fun out of it, just try have a rough idea of where you want to go and you'll be fine!!!
No idea yet, my geography is extremely poor and i impulsively booked 8 weeks off work haha. Good start right?! I'll be flying into Bangkok and out of it too so a round trip is needed, anywhere i go will be more than i thought i'd do so i'm quite flexible with destinations!
Where have you been so far? Is there anywhere you would or wouldn't recommend? Also how much should i be budgeting for 8 weeks?
Thanks for replying!
Haha awesome, well your pretty much in the same boat as me with doing a round trip to and from Bangkok! I'm spending around 6-7 weeks in SE Asia and the transport especially in Vietnam is quite slow apparently so instead of going through Laos, Cambodia to Vietnam I'm think of getting a regional flight from Bangkok to Hanoi then working my way down from there - Hoi An - Hue - Nha Trang - Mui Ne - Ho Chi Minh, then fly back to Bangkok from that airport. It is only about 25-30GDP each way.
As for Thailand, I'm not sure where I'll go yet, there is so much to do and so little time so maybe see what I feel when I get there, I do want to go Chiang Mai, but heard it is a 6 hour train/bus up there! So maybe I'll stick south west and do some Islands! Sorry that is not much help!
Um as for budgeting, which I am really going to do -I heard accomodation, food, travel about £15-20 per day..for your basic budget backpacker...but don't quote me on that haha, I need to look it more if I'm honest!!
Hey
I'm landing in bangkok on 13 February. Staying in SE Asia for 4-6 weeks. Never been there before and nothing planned yet. Have you booked your flights/accommodation?

Hello mattc83, I'm planning on getting my flight into BK around the 9th March, no accommodation booked but will do it nearer the time. If you both are around I'd be keen to get together!
Hi Guys,
I happen to live in Thailand at the moment - originally from England though. I came last year to train at a Muay Thai camp with my friend and fell in love with the place and managed to find a way to stay (i now have my own business) If anyone has any plans to come to Phuket please let me know. Im always happy to give some insiders advice on where to go out, what to do and can also help finding some good/cheap accommodation. Its always nice to meet up with fellow travellers and share some stories over a beer or 3.
Cheers Mike I may take you up on tha offer!
Me too haha! xx
