Best time to go to Thailand is the start of December. It is normally very dry and it gets hotter month by month till the end of April.
You can get a 60 day visa and a 30 day extension while there if you fancy a long time there. Or 30 day visa exemption on arrival and cheap trips to other countries nearby. Each new arrival by air to Thailand gives you another 30 days but only 15 days if you arrive by land. 90 days out of 180 days in total.
The greatest part of the cost is getting there so people tend to stay for a long time to make it pay, and sitting on a beach in the sunshine there beats shovelling snow back home.
There are a number of cheap airlines to fly around Thailand and around Asia, like AirAsia which is like Ryanair. Countries like Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Japan, etc are all within easy reach.
You should book a flight to Thailand 4-5 months early. And your room 2-3 months early. Accommodation is very cheap there but air conditioning is good as it does get rather hot and sticky there, even at night.
You really need to get some idea of what you want, where you want to go, what you want to see and do and then you can ask specific questions.
Thanks very much for the info nice to know what i need to look into...it was mainly to see if there was anyone else looking to do the same kind of thing next year but on the plus side atleast i can be doing my research until i find myself a travelling buddy
