Hi there - I'd like to edit my blog template (Postcard) to show the Author name directly under the entry title (my wife and I both write entries, and when they autopublish to Facebook, I'd like the author name to show on the blurb).
I'm afraid that what you want to do here would be very hard. Selecting the author itself is probably doable, but positioning it nicely at the top would be quite difficult (I can think of one or two ways, but I'd have to go experiment for quite a while to see if I could get either working well).
Moreover, as the template editing works on CSS only, it'd only visually appear at the top on your blog, but it wouldn't really be part of the entry title, and so wouldn't show up in the blurb on facebook.
Your best bet would be to convince Sam and Peter that wanting the author name to show up at the top of a blog entry (in a multi-author blog) is a common enough usecase that they'll add a preference for it.
Something like this would work in terms of an edit to your template:
p.entrydetails {position:absolute;top:33px;border-top:none !important;}
However, as Sander notes, it wouldn't actually help with Facebook picking up on it. In that regard, what you've done on the latest entry (putting the author as the sub title), might actually work better. Can you let us know if that published more like you expected?
I actually changed the sub-title post-publication, when I realized that it would be confusing as to author. So, I can't see how it posted on FB.
Perhaps this is less of an issue with the template, and more of a request for the TP app that publishes to FB. If that app allowed for some customization of content/format for the FB posts, that would solve my problem...
The problem I think is that Facebook doesn't actually allow much customization. If I'm not mistaken there's only 2 or three fields that can be added there, but I've passed on an email to Peter asking him to have a look at this. He's the one that set this up, so will be more knowledgeable on options exactly.
Checked with Peter, and our best bet would be to add it into the body of the description, which is also where it would end up if it was added as the first sentence in the blog post. We also discussed whether or not it would be something that would be appreciated by many, but nearly all the bloggers using the FB app are posting as individuals back to their own profile. Having a TP username showing there would probably just be more confusing than useful.
I'd be curious to see how it ends up on your next post with the author name in the subheading!

If the subheading doesn't work, what will definitely work is making the first sentence/paragraph say the author name, then starting the entry below that. Hopefully the subheading will do the trick though.
