I'm headed to Buenos Aires in just a few days and was wondering if any of you had suggestions, tips and advice on the city! Hostels, restaurants, safety, things you enjoyed... any info is appreciated!
Also, if anyone is currently in BA or heading there soon, I'd be glad to meet! (travelling alone across south america )

I took a bus from the airport. It's over an hour and by time we got there, the empty bus was full up.
BA is a capital and working city with not much for the tourist. I thought it safe and quite liked it. It's easy to walk around though there is a lot of it. On Sunday I came across a boot sale of types spread over a number of streets.
Buy a street map if you can. I found one useful.
I had a day in Montevideo (Uruguay) which is only a short hop away by plane.

Buenos Aires is a fascinating city, part South American, part (old) European. The prices have gone up steadily 30% each year in the past years, so this city is NOT cheap anymore.
Take a bus from the airport if you can. A taxi will cost you 220 pesos from the international airport to downtown. A lot of young people stay in San Telmo or Recoleta, where you will have to pay in US$. Public transportation is pretty good, watch out for pick-pockets in a crowded bus or subway. There is a double-decker yellow tourist bus that will take you for a 2,5 hour tour through the city, with the possibility of hop-on, hop-off every half an hour. Costs 70 pesos. Might have to buy a ticket first at the tourist information near Retiro train station.
Do go to Recoleta to the cementary, then the BA Design Center with the Hardrock Cafe, and then across the street to the Museum of Bellas Artes - worth it! Don't go to fancy tango shows that include dinner - waste of money. Try to go to San Telmo on Sundays, block and block of great street markets.

Highly recommend taking a trip out to the Tigre Delta about an hour outside the city and reachable via train. Really beautiful area where the locals go for weekends.
City is fairly safe, but as always be smart.
San Telmo sunday market is a must see - even if just to sees the dancers.
Try some of the local ice cream.
There were quite a few good hostels and inexpensive guest houses around but remembering the names without consulting my journals isn't easy. I remember one of them was part of the VS group and another one had something Sun in the name, but I generally stayed in guesthouses.
