I am planning on travelling through Thailand through July to August this year and would like some help into how much money I will need to bring with me - flights excluded.
One thing you have working for you is that you will be traveling during the cheapest time of the year. No problem finding a cheap hotel.
Why not reverse your thinking a bit. There is no single budget for everyone. Some tourists routinely stay in expensive hotels over 3000 baht per night and others stay in rooms at 300 baht per night. Likewise you can choose expensive places to eat at and spend over 500 baht a meal or as little 50 baht for a big dish of fried rice. Different cities have different prices for hotels. Phuket being more expensive than Bangkok for hotels and local transportation.
Work up a budget and see how much per day you can afford for your hotel and then fit the trip to what funds you have. When you know how much per day you can pay for a hotel ask for suggestions in that price range.
You will need an end date for your flight home. If you intended to fly over on a one way flight and return home using another one way flight compare the cost of one way vs round trip. For some major airlines one way and round trip costs are not much different. Local flights in this part of Asia are not too expensive. There is also excellent train and bus transportation.
Try not to waste your whole holiday only at beach locations. Don't skip Bangkok. Northern Thailand is worth a look too. Plan at least a minimum of 2 weeks to get your money's worth on an expensive plane ticket.

As Albert explained in above post, everyone spends their money differently. For someone 18 and willing to do with less comfort than older travellers, figure appox. $30/day. This will be fan rooms, eating with locals or backpacker places, bus, no booze. Round it off for a few extras and $1K/month would be realistic. Those of us over 50 will generally want a better room, better food and VIP bus/train. Figure 1.5K/month for those that want a better holiday. Hope this helps with your planning.

Thank you all for your advice, I will be willing to go "rough" so to speak and I am now more confident in the budget I will need. I will have to do my research into flights then for sure. This has been very helpful, thanks.
Im starting my tour of Asia in 2 months and I have budgeted for £15 a day < £5 for acommodation, £5 for food & drink & £5 for travel expenses > buses/trains.
It all depends on the style of your trip < the more you move (2-3 nights in different hostels) the more expensive it will get.For example < in larger countries like China, I have decided to spend my time in 3 places otherwise I would end up spending lots of money on transport.
