March is a good time to fly into Mumbai / Goa / Kerala...
In Mumbai... you must visit the Elephanta Island (also known as elephanta caves)... The place is said to be created back in 450 AD.... you will get a Ferry From Gateway of India (Another British Era monument right next to the Famous Taj Palace Hotel and about 10 mins from colaba... Chowpatty Beach is there for an evening stroll... from here you can also go around Marine Drive... which is ideal for watching sunset and is on the coast of Arabian Sea...It is fondly called as The Queen's Necklace(Looks Magnificent at Night)...Malabar Hills and INS Vikrant -Now a Museum ship is a must see as well....Culture Curry is a Must if You would like to eat authentic South Indian dishes and Goan specialities...
Goa... The land of Beach raves and parties is rich in culture... You can go on a museum tour by visiting The Archaeological Museum... and Museum of the Christian Art... Then You may go to The Chapel of St. Sebastian...Church of St Augustine...You may like to go to the Tropical Spice Farm - here you can indulge yourself in a 45 minutes walk followed by Lunch... Indulge yourself in a Sunset Boat Cruise on River Mandovi (Various Companies offer exciting deals)...oh ! You can also go in for the Dolphin Cruises...usually offered till mid of April and operates from 9 AM till about 1300 hrs...Go to Anjuna Flea Market to pick some Souvenirs...
Kerala - Called as God's Own Country is a quite and serene place to be in... Out from the regular hustle - bustle of Big cities... I would recommend spending 1 night at Cochin ... Visit Athirapally falls the next day after check out from the hotel... Go on to Munnar ( a Hill Station)... Then You can spend a couple of nights at Kumarakom (Stay at a Houseboat at Kumarakom and Not at Alleppey) ... a night at Kovalam and a Night at Thiruvananthapuram should sum up your Trip...

You can do this:
1a : Book a boathouse for yourself from Kerala tourism in advance. Will save you from touts and many hassles.
Day 1: Cochin - Arrive, settle and visit the beachfront. You can take a ferry which goes to the Cochin fort on an island type place and then come back. You will love to see the Chinese fishing nets on the beach at the aunrise/sunset.
Roam around and have a look into the city. Its a good place to notice various genres of India.
If you want to spend the night in Cochin, well and good.
Day 2: Go to Cochin railway station early morning and board the train going to Allepey. Allepey is famous for its pristine backwaters and you will know why when you go there.
You will reach Allepey by 10 AM. Take an auto and ask him to take you to the backwaters/ the place where your houseboat will wait for you. Board the houseboad, grab a easy chair on the deck and enjoy God's own country. The house boat will anchor in the middle of water / at some stop at night and you will have a pleasent night, very difference from any wahere else in the world
Kerala is a great choice but i doubt you took the right decision to travel by train from Mumbai to Goa. Mumbai is a place in itself and you might just like it or hate it, but you can never ignore that place!
