- Have you been influence to make a decision or take action, by the advice you have received or information that you have read on the forum…..can you give me an example?
If you have any other ways that you have been helped by this community that you want to share I would love to hear from you.
To your first question, I'd have to say no. Though, what I have read in the various forums has given me a very long list of places I want to visit. Replies have given me alternative ways of traveling if/when I have the chance to go. (At my age, I won't be backpacking anywhere nor staying in hostels.) My husband and I have limited vacation time and limited funds. We also have our own list we've been trying to whittle down over the years.
To your (second) comment, that's a very big YES! Sander and I both commented in your first thread about TP being a community. At various times, members will decide there should be a TP meet-up. They happen all around the world and can range from 2 people to 20 or more. Our first was in in 2005. (Admin attended - Sam in the green shirt and Peter kneeling in front of him. My husband (beerman) is next to Peter and I'm on the outside left.) Our second big one was in during 2006.
In between times, and prior to/since those meet-ups, we have had TPers as guests in our home. We've had several 'mini-meet-ups' with 1 or 2 members. With the members who have stayed here, some were visitors we'd not met in person prior to their arrival at the airports. We took a chance and those chances have paid out in spades. They are now all dear friends. Beerman's family wasn't too keen on our decisions, thinking we'd be hacked up and buried in the woods behind our house. Then again, maybe they were hoping... Either way, TP has helped develop friendships I'd not ever imagined could happen. It's like the penpal you've never met yet know intimately through their writings, PMs and snail mails. It's been a wonderful and fulfilling ride.
Like a number of other posters here, I give advice but whether anyone takes any notice of it or completely ignores it is upto them. I like to think of it as giving them choices.
For advice to work properly, questions have to be very specific. If someone says they are going to Europe, Asia or South America next year (all points raised on here today), you can only give very general answers to them.
Yesterday on another forum, someone had booked a hotel, THEN asked what it was like? What point? He's booked it.

And, once again, you have my permission to use my responses for your research. I'm glad I was able to point you in the right direction for getting these types of questions on the forums.
If you liked the pics, you'll probably like this too. The two on the left are members who visited us sight unseen (Cupcake from the US and Pardus from Dublin). Josette could only stay for a long weekend while Phil was here for a full week.(Phil's now visited 3 times.) We only had one leprechaun suit so the photo has obviously been 'photoshopped'. (I still have the suit but forget to 'force' TP visitors to wear it for creating a "Welcome to Kalav Manor, where we are likely to embarrass you' photo album.)
We also have a tradition that travel everywhere with us, including meet-ups. At meet-ups those attending receive their own gnomad ducky. A few members have more than one- ranging from mariachi duckies to bride and groom duckies. Even held a contest in the Off Topic forum to name them when we originally assembled the group. (We started with pirate duckies as I am Capt. Isa of the TP pirate ship, Beerman is admiral, though we keep him locked in his quarters with copious amounts of rum, and other regular members are the crew. Given that, no one can say TP isn't a community in more ways than one. Most of the time, it feels more like a family.
