NZ- North Island, Feb/March 2012 - travelling solo

Hello,

There's daily busses going everywhere you'd want to go; and on the north Island, quite a few routes with multiple busses a day. So no, renting a car is certainly not necessary. (Check and , though there's also various regional alternatives.)
On the other hand, the roads are generally very high quality, very well signposted, and quiet, which makes driving through New Zealand rather pleasant. I can recommend it just for the added flexibility of stopping by the side of the road whenever the view totally takes your breath away (a common occurence).

Also, with a month to spend in New Zealand, I'd strongly recommend spending at least two weeks of that time on the South Island. It's even more gorgeous.

Brilliant, thank you for your advice!

How much would you reckon I should budget for 3 weeks? Including, accommodation/food/etc...I will be doing it on the cheap using hostels and couchsurfing also..

Thank you in advance.

Hello,

If there's any interest, I am looking for 3 people to share costs of a rental car to travel around NZ from late Feb till mid-March. More details upon request,

Have fun and safe travels...

Kamal
