Landing at Heathrow - Getting to Germany

I will be flying from LAX to Heathrow, landing @2:15pm on April 24th. I had initially intended to stay overnight & take the train to Germany. But that is ridiculously expensive. So now I'm looking to book a flight out of Heathrow to Dusseldorf. How much time should I allow myself to actually land, get my baggage, go through customs and be on time to check in for my next flight? I know I'll have to change terminals. I thought I could book a ticket for about 5-5:30. Does that seem reasonable/doable?

I would be tempted to give it a bit longer than that. Heathrow can be a bit of a nightmare to navigate and negotiate, it wouldn't give you very much room for any hiccups or delays. I would say go for a flight at about 7pm if you can.

I agree, Heathrow is a terrible airport to negotiate your way through -I've twice missed a connection there because my incoming flight was late, in spite of thinking I had plenty of time between flights. I'd recommend leaving yourself at least 4 hours just in case.
