cheapest airline to Australia

I am trying to find the cheapest airline to travel to Australia with. Are Quantas and Cathay Pacific the major airlines from UK?
Is it best to book directly with the airline company?
Is Perth normally the cheapest destination in Australia?
Sorry for all the questions,

Emirates and Singapore Airlines can also offer good deals. I'd recommend getting some quotes from a travel agent such as though, as in my experience this has worked out cheaper than booking with the airline. might also be worth a try. I'm not sure if Perth would be the cheapest even though it's the closest, as there are probably more airlines flying into Sydney and Melbourne so therefore more deals.

You are right, Perth is normally the cheapest destination in AU from the UK. Malaysia Airlines appears to be the cheapest on the route.

There's Air Asia, if you're ok with going on a budget airline all that way! They fly from Stansted to Kuala Lumpur, then you would need to buy another ticket for KL to Melbourne, Perth or Gold Coast. They don't do connecting flights as such, so it would be best to have at least 1 night stopover.
