Hey guys. I am a single 24 year old female from Australia who is doing a bit of a world trip this year. Thinking of getting to Sotuh America around Oct. Really comfortable with my own travel in Europe and have friends in South Africa but don't know much about South America. Should I go it alone or do a bit of a tour with say Gap or Intrepid? Has anyone used them in South America or another company they could recommend?
Alone or with a group, depends on YOU, also on how much time you have to spend there? I am a Latin American Addict....constantly traveling throughout the Pan American Highway countries, usually starting at the border of USA/Mexico and going via "overland" southbound to the End of the World.
If you have a limited time, and want to do just the "tourist" things (guided city tours, churches, and natural attractions with a guide) I would suggest you take a tour. If you have the time to explore and do your own thing, do it yourself. I would be happy to share any of my experiences with you if you send me a personal message, and give me some of the details of your time, and your preferences of travel.
I almost always do the trips CAMPING, and going to the out of the way places....people, nature, and "living the event"... have a great time whatever you choose.

I am a single 27 year-old Canadian girl and I am planning on doing an Intrepid tour of South America in November. I am doing volunteer work for a couple of months before that in Ecuador, then meeting some friends in Brazil after the tour for a month.
The reason why I chose an Intrepid tour is time. I can only take 6 months off work and since I am taking 2 of those to volunteer and 1 with my friends, 3 months doesn't allow me to see a lot. I am usually a quality over quantity kinda girl, but figured an adventure tour would be fun (and safe)!
