I know this subject has been discussed a few times before...
I'd say don't allow them, unless it's from an existing member who has a history of being involved on travellerspoint (that is; their purpose for being on travellerspoint isn't to sell something; basically the same criterion we use to decide if a link to an outside website is likely to be fine or "for promotional purposes").

I agree. I just tried using the thread you flagged as an example (before you flagged it and it said the link was too long). I will leave it flagged and ask Kris not to remove it until Admin looks at it.
Keep removing them I say! Happy to allow it for some obvious regular user of TP, but new users coming in just to sell their van.. nah.
Do you think it's worth creating as a separate area of the site though? Mind you, it feels like a total minefield of possible spam if we do. It would probably have to be a paid service to not be absolute junk. And we're not fans of absolute junk floating around the site

The whole kombi, campervan, RV sales thing has just become an annoyance.
Peter, we've had that discussion before - starting a 'for sale' forum for assorted things. I think Bex (maybe not) brought it up. (I'm sure Sander will find the thread.) The general opinion (if I remember correctly) was it would be that minefield. Whomever would be moderating the forum would be busy all day just verifying the validity of all the sale items.
I also agree that regular members should have that allowance as they also contribute to the site. Anyone else thinking TP is Craig's List - no.

Cool! It's just one more headache no one really needs and I feel it ultimately would 'cheapen the feel' of the site in general. People like how clean TP is with minimal spam and no one really trying to sell anyone anything. There are enough sites out there for people to sell their used vehicles already. I realize there is interest by some for these threads in CA/SA, though the sales are rarely made through TP. They are just a waste of forum space but that's my personal opinion. (Obviously, Sander, Michael and you agree.)
