Recommendation for TSA friendly carry on

I'd like to replace the wheeled carry-on that I have had for years.
I need something that will have enough space for one or two nights.
I want something as TSA friendly as possible.
I'd like to be able to keep my laptop, iPad and as much other stuff as I can in the carry-on when I'm going through security.
If it was soft enough that I could get it into any available space that would be great.
Once I get on the plane I'd like to be able to remove my laptop, iPad, a notebook, etc. from the carry-on as quickly as possible.
I sometimes travel with a dog. On a leash. Which tends to make me think I might want something
that was like a backpack or shoulder bag. With the leash in one hand it's harder to deal with a wheeled carry-on.

You can get a backpack with specific compartments for laptops. If you don't really need too much stuff, then this is a pretty good way to go. That's what I would do on an overnight / 2 day trip.

I would prefer this to a shoulder bag, since a backpack is just far more comfortable.

That sounds like a good idea.
Anyone know if there is product where the compartments for the laptop, etc. can be easily removed? I'm very open to a specific product recommendation. Someplace to get me started. Or if anyone has personal experience pro or con.

Thanks.

The best advice on the net is found at

www.onebag.com

It specializes in carryon travel.

I bought the Red Oxx Airboss for business travel and it works great. I also have a small Dakine that converts from Hand/Shoulder strap to backpack.

I used the second bag for a one month solo trip to Russia. All 22lbs of cargo fit in and it could easily be taken anywhere. Both great bags.

Only one complaint. The Airboss texture of the shoulder strap, called the clay, is rather aggressive. It doesn't slip off shoulder but it HURTS after a while. I use the shoulder strap from the Dakine on it instead.

Good Luck

PS. The bundle packing technique really works well.

Excellent post, TeflonCDN!
That is a great web site.
Thanks for the comments on the Red Oxx Airboss.
This is just what I was looking for.

Check out the Ebags TLS Weekender. It has hideaway straps and a laptop compartment.
