I've got 4 nights in Italy next week and wondering how to spend my time?
I was considering 2 nights Cinque Terre and then 2 nights in Florence but I've been told by different people that Florence only needs 2 nights and by other to spend longer there.
Rome is my absolute favourite city in the world because of all it's architectural gems so now I dont know what to do!
Florence is lovely but if it's either 2 or 4 nights I'd go for 2 and see some of the coast too. I was slightly underwhelmed with Florence because I went there shortly after Rome, which as you say is amazing.

Florence is a beautiful city to explore. i studied there for about a year last year. i would advise going for the full 4 days and making a day trip out of cinque terre. that coast consists of 5 small beach towns that makes a perfect day trip that is fairly close to firenze just a short train ride (fairly cheap price too). The thing with firenze is it is a gem just as much as rome i would argue. you just have to know where to go and what to look for. Stay in Firenze as home base for sure. explore the city for 2 days. (feel free to email me and i can send you specifics in terms of the what to see and do to see the real firenze) and then whichever day out of the 4 has the best weather just make a day trip to cinque terre. also you could consider doing a day thing out of chianti and go wine tasting or a day trip to lucca (my FAVORITE little tuscan town just outside of firenze)
