What address to use when traveling in aus?

Hi, I will arrive in Australia in november. What address would I use when setting up a bank account or buying a rego for a car? I will have no fixed address in aus and be camping / mobile for the duration. Thanks for any replies! Andrew

Hi Mate, I've been looking in to doing an arrival pack thing called UltimateOz and they have a postal address as part of their package which I guess is for things like that. Check them out.

For the bank account, you can just use your hostel's address to have the debit card sent to (takes about a week, so that's how long you'll be stuck in one place), and tell them not to send you bank statements. They're completely used to this. Not certain about the car registration, but I'd say the same.

car registration is a hard one because if you get fined without knowing or forget to pay a toll then you will never see the letter unless you go back or ask the hostel to open the letter. hopefully you will make some contacts before you buy a car so that maybe they could help you out.

the card you can pick up from the bank so it doesn't need to be sent to the hostel but you need to stay in the area for 1 week.

check out: jobs4travellers website they have some useful information

commonwealth and NAB banks have a free online registration before you enter the country which is useful. I believe NAB is better purely on the fact they have more ATM's as you can withdraw cash out of RediATM's without a charge which are put in petrol stations and area's where other cash machines are not.

Ah, cool! That's new (-ish; meaning they didn't have it 8 years ago yet) :P - Do you know for certain if all banks offer that?
