US Visa Information

Hiya
Hoping someone can help....
We are 2 females from the UK looking to travel across America but don't know what visa's we would need/be able to get.
We don't have jobs to walk into. We are 23 so no longer students.
We would need temporary work to help support ourselves along the way.
If anyone could possibly help us out we would be truly great full!

For the USA, simply forget about getting a temporary work visa if you're not a student. They don't want you.

If you're not going until 2014, consider Canada instead; they have a (which, unfortunately, is already used up for this calender year). Otherwise Australia and New Zealand also have WHVs, which are available year round, and supremely easy to get. Allows you to stay in the country 1-2 year, respectively, and work while there (up to 6 months for the same employer).

Thank you so much for replying!

Oh right, that's so annoying really wanted to start in America! Definitely gonna look into Canada though so thank you!

Only wanted casual work like bar job or something just to help us fund our way around!

Looks like its back to more research!

Just so you are aware, the US employs something called e-verify to ensure that employers here hire only those who are actually legally allowed to work.

The penalty for noncompliance is a minimum of $10,000 per instance--oh, and anyone who reports someone else can get up to 25% of that amount as a reward. So, as you can imagine, the number of illegals getting "part-time work" has gone way down. It has even made it difficult for growers to find enough people to harvest current crops, since many of those they hired were illegal immigrants from Central American countries. Here's an article on that problem first posted just 4 days ago.

If you are coming to the US and planning to "work under the table", just forget it. It is no longer possible under the new rules and stronger enforcement methods.

Thank you so much for letting me know!
I had no idea it got so strict!!

Think it's gonna be more worthwhile going to Canada on a whv and just keep popping over to the states when we have the funds!

Thank you so much for the information !
