Cancelling accommodation would not be the main thing I'd worry about with regards to cancellation insurance. Most sites charge very low cancellation fees for accommodation that is cancelled (here on TP you only lose the deposit of 10% for example), and in some cases you can cancel free of charge. On the other hand, the cost of a cancellation insurance can be quite high. One of the more reliable insurance companies in Scandinavia charges 6% of the total cost of the trip, so that can add up quickly...
