First of all, you'll never have enough time to see all of the world.
I would recommend looking at places you really want to go and starting with them,
Easter Europe is really cheap and the people are really friendly, to food is fantastic, and there are some really amazing things to see- I would recommend a trip in this direction if you're on a budget.
If you're only going for two week time periods, I wouldn't recommend more than two countries in that time. You just won't get to see enough if you try anymore. Some of the major cities for example Paris and Berlin you could spend a week here alone.
Doing multiple trips may make it more expensive for you having to keep flying home and back so I would look into flight costs and evaluate whether it is better to do it this way, or to hold off for a few years, take a year off and see as much as you can in one go.
I'm hoping to travel in the next few years. This will give me plenty of time to think through and decide whether or not to have several months away and do it properly. This way I'm not on a time limit and will have a better understanding with my budget.
kfaith90, I see what you mean about what I suggested above. Having to book a return flight twice a year to return home will work out expensive. Might as well use that money to jump to other countries.
I've also worked out a lot of the stuff I wish to visit are spread out and will require plenty of traveling which will have an impact on my time allowance. Although traveling is part of the journey around the world.

So if you're based in the UK you could easily nibble away at Europe on weekend trips, using bank holidays and the odd day of leave.
Europe is the most densely packed bit of content in the world - when i recently brainstormed a travel wishlist it was about half the list.
And then for the rest, you can tick off a lot of different types of experience without going everywhere. For example if you see Cambodia you may not feel a pressing need to see Vietnam or Laos straight away.
You can also sample a lot of places quickly to see where you'd like to linger. A Caribbean or Mediterranean cruise for example.
I'd say try working down a hit list of destinations and you may alter where else you then want to see.
Sorry, I’m not really sure what you are asking? Take two two week holidays a year? That sounds very much like what most people do every year – just go on holiday?!
If you would jump for the opportunity to just disappear for a year why can’t you do it?
When we have work commitments you can only use say 2 or 3 weeks a year to travel and that's OK we have to earn a crumb to do the things we want to do in life. It's only when we retire and that's hoping you get there that the serious travel comes into play.
What I would suggest is just covering one country at a time and really enjoying it.
Our first long haul while working was to China and it can be done in one area for 2 weeks. China can be a challenge traveling in non tourist areas but the people are fantastic and are very helpful and friendly.
The choice always is should I travel independently or in a group that is your choice do the research.
If it is your first time traveling overseas, Europe is easy and so many countries to visit as is Thailand, Vietnam,Cambodia,US.
NZ and OZ are easy but a long way to travel for just 2 weeks you need at least a month.
We are in Russia at the moment in Moscow and we visited St Petersburg 8 days in all taking the train from SP to Moscow and before that 11 days in Hungary been away for three weeks in all had a great time.

I think you should go with your first choice. While doing this you can manage your work as well ,instead of going for a year and getting tired and ruining your work. In this way your whole life is full of adventures ..
