SRI LANKA-where to visit??

I'm stopping off in sri Lanka for 9 days between 9th-18th Dec. Wanted to stop in a couple places and get some beach time in before moving on.

At a minimum I'd want to head over to Kandy and see the Temple of the Tooth, and to climb Sigiriya rock.

I'd also recommend Unawatuna beach which is in the south near Galle.

To see the maximum we chose to ditch backpacking and take a tour, which wasn't expensive there. We used Elephant Island, who were fine, most of their tours did a loop Colombo Dambulla Polonaruwa Sigiriya Kandy Newara Eliya Yala Galle and beach time. With nine days I'd try to zip through a tour with some beach days at the end.

Thanks Andy. I've emailed them for some prices. That just about everything I was looking to do there.

There are many places to visit in Sri Lanka. It is a small island of its kind but it is the first choice of visitors. there you can visit to Sigiriya, Yala National Park, Sri pada, Dambulla cave temple, Wilpattu National Park and many more attractive places. Go ahead and explore the Sri Lanka. Don't forget to share your visit with us.

Seeing as you are on a short time limit, I'd also suggest a tour for the cultural triangle, but then maybe drop back into Colombo and grab a bus down to Galle, which is easy. Then rather than Unawatuna which although is nice, its a bit limited with its beach and restaurants and would opt for going a bit further south to Mirissa, which has a better beach and is a bit more lively. Hikkaduwa is also worth a stop when you take the bus down to Galle, still has some intact coral and a good amount of restaurants.

Hi

9 days is a great amount of time see all the sites and check out the beaches as well. You should be able to get a good glimpse of everything Sri Lanka has to offer.

I would suggest the following
For culture- The cultural triangle consisting of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya and Dambulla
Kandy is a must for every visitor
Nuwara Eliya if you are interested in visiting tea plantations and Colonial Ceylon
Beaches- Galle, Unawatuna, Hikkaduwa or Mirissa

I would personally say two nights in the cultural triangle, one night in Kandy, one night in Nuwara Eliya and the rest of the time in the southern part of Sri lanka, enjoying the beaches. Unawatuna, Galle and Hikkaduwa are all along the same stretch and easily accessible to each other. Unawatuna and Hikkaduwa are kniwn for their beach parties and all night raves, whilst Galle seeps in Its colonial history. Mirrissa is another increasingly popular beach, which is crowded and less commercial than the others. From Galle harbour, you can also catch a boat to go whale watching as Sri lanka is one of the best places in the world to see blue whales and sperm whales

Your best bet would be to contact a tour operator, and I would highly suggest using some of the smaller operators as they offer much more value for money. We went to Sri Lanka in March and used K.D Travels and tours. Very reasonable, and the driver /tourguide was excellent. They have a very active Facebook page

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the advice. Been very helpful and I'm now putting together an itenary. Will come back to you if there's anymore questions. Thanks again

Sri Lanka is small island but has many things to see. There are many waterfalls like Aberdeen Falls, Pulun Falls, St. Clair's Falls and many. There is many wildlife - Udawalawa National Park, Yala National Park, Wilpattu National Park, Udawatta Forest and many other wildlife natural forest.
You can see cultural heritage at Dambulla, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Anuradhapura city to see some good temples, monasteries, palaces and marked world heritage sites.
The are good beaches to visit in Sri Lanka like in the Galle, Unawatuna, Hikkaduwa or in Mirissa like Alankuda Beach, Arugam Bay, Unawatuna Beach, Kosgoda Beach etc.

There much more to visit you can PM me to know more about the travel, or planning a tour.
