Hi,
Check the here on travellerspoint for some ideas of prices. Note that the very lowest budget prices you see ("$18" e.a.) tend to be huge dorm in really crappy hostels (you get what you pay for) - in general the big cities are expensive, and can easily cost you AUD $30 for a bed in a dorm room. An average "total" backpacker budget is AUD $80/day while travelling around (giving you a small dorm room in a decent quality hostel, supermarket food to cook your own meals with, public transport from destination to destination, and an occasional activity (things like "platypus spotting" rather than "sky-diving")). You can reduce this quite a bit while working long-term by not needing transport, and staying in a share house in one of the suburbs, rather than in a hostel.

Hi guys,
Im also traveling to australia for 1 year.
Would like to work in sydney for a while,
@adz2012
What kind of job did you do? 22ph sounds really nice.
Was a call center raising money for various charities. Sounds soul destroying but it really isn't. One of the best jobs I had and I'm now working on getting a sponsorship back with them. Also $22 ph is what you start on
Haha I think I will be able to handle something like that, got myself some experience in call centers..
What is the name of the company?
Maybe I can send them an e-mail.
thanks
They are called 2evolve. And are located near central station in Sydney so it's easy to get to.
Hey, I'm also coming to Aus in October to work and then travel- that job sounds pretty good, is the hiring process for jobs out there relatively easy for back packers?
Yea pretty easy, a lot easier than the UK for sure! Better pay too, the real challenge is living cheaply. But I was on enough money to pay rent, but weekly shop, go out at weekend and save $200-$400 a week!
that would be amazing!! Did you rent with others you met there? Any advice on how to meet people?
