I plan on doing my first ever solo trip in feb 2016. I'm heading to thailand and possibly vietnam.
A nervous first time traveller to Thailand can be instantly surrounded with countless other nervous, first time travellers. Just go to any Khao San Road hostel and your solo nervousness will evaporate.
Go to some of the southern islands that have been completely taken over by foreign backpackers and it won't be long before you're sick and tired of NOT being alone. ;-)
Relax. Have fun.
Cheers,
Terry
Each person is different; but you should have no problems traveling solo. I do it most of the time. If anything, traveling solo permits you to meet and interact with a wider range of people. Those in groups tend to interact more with each other. When you’re solo, you go where you want to go; and do what you want to do, all at the pace you want. With others, you have to keep their interests (and budgets) in mind. You’re almost never alone on the road (look at all the people around you!). If you reach out (say “hello,” smile, wave, etc.) others will reach out, too. Language need not be a barrier. Getting to know people is one of the joys of traveling, once you make the effort.
People may come and go in our lives. But friendships nurtured last a lifetime. I soon will again visit friends that I first met in 1973-’74 while overseas.
