Actually, the holidays (that is Christmas etc.) is less than average compared to many other European countries or even in the US for example. Around 5-8 on average a year. Some are always on Mondays (like 'Second Easter Day'), others have specific dates and might be in the weekend, in which case we don't have a Friday or Monday off.
But the average of 5 weeks vacation is true. And in many cases, include mine, we actually work 40 hours but get paid for 36 hours. The 4 hours extra can be built up into regular holidays, meaning I have around 9 weeks a year, excluding holidays and overtime etc.
