I want to be in New York for the big New Years Eve thing in Times Square but not many people seem interested. Is it good to go on your own or would it be better with a friend?
Ive bin to new york once wen i was 12 , which may not help but the place is amazin and with it being new years eve am sure u wud hav an amazin time wether ur with friends or not!
you will be cool in new york, there are such a diverse amount of people there, you will find most people are not exactly from there anyway so will prob pick people up along the way, i've been twice with my family though but stepped out alone a few times, everyone stops to talk to you anyway, but be careful its like any city there's a lot of loons on the streets - mind you, as i say everywheres the same, just be sensible!

Personally, I wouldn't goto New York alone unless I was rich and could afford to stay in fabulous hotels. I would definatly go with someone.
I used to live in NY and know it well, so feel very comfortable there on my own, but even before i lived there i went there alone and did fine. If you ahve a friend witht he same interests as you ahve and who is a good traveling companion,l might be fun to travel together, if not, u will surely make friends there- as has been poste previously there is every kind of person in the world there! Be aware of course, as with all bi cities some ppl are good some aren't, if your gut says to get yourself away from someone listen to it and dont hesitate to do so, but many New yorkers are wonderful people too!

I guess it depends on your personality and what you would like to do in New York. If you are the exploring and wandering-around kind, it is definitely fine for you to go alone and probably you would find some interesting encounters! But if you like to have someone to take pictures for you or to talk with or to go out with while you are sight-seeing or visiting the museums or clubbing, it would be convenient/fun to have a friend around.
Either way, I think it will be a great trip!
Most of my travelling in Europe and South East Asia are with someone or at least with one companion.
This April, it would be my 1st trip to New York on this coming Easter Holiday, unfortunately I'll be traveling alone.
To be honest, I'm kinda of nervous. Who knows I might meet a mate on my journey or on the plane it self...
I hope I'll enjoy my self even though this round I'll be a loner there...

Just joined this site as I too am travelling to New York this Easter on my own and was also looking for advice about whether its a good idea.
As like you I'm a little nervous but after reading a few forums it seems that it is a good place with lots of interesting characters. So I'm now looking forward to meeting lots of different people. Living near London and going there virtually everyday on my own, and that city certainly has some colourful people, that I'm sure it will a very enjoyable experience.
Lets hope we both have a good time...
