Getting around in Peru

greasy has indicated that this thread is about Peru

Hello there,
I think the best will be the following itinerary:
> Lima - Arequipa (by bus: 15 hours / plane: 1.5 hours)
> Arequipa - Cuzco (by bus: 10 hours / plane: 0.5 hours)
> Cuzco - Pto Maldonado (by plane: 0.5 hours)
> Pto Maldonado - Lima (by plane: 2 hours).

You can take night buses to save time and money to go to Arequipa and then Cuzco. Try Cruz del Sur bus company. They have double decker buses with almost flat seat on the ground floor (VIP). If you are tall, I totally suggest those seats. Another good bus company for the ride from Lima to Arequipa is Oltursa.

You can check out the bus schedules on:
cruzdelsur.com.pe
oltursa.com.pe

For the rest (Puerto Maldonado and back to Lima), you don't have other option than flying.

I don't think you will have time to go to Northern Peru. 14 days is barely enough to do the itinerary above. If you will travel only for 10 days, skip Arequipa and fly from Lima to Cuzco and then Puerto Maldonado and back.

Have a safe trip,
Ivan

Lovely, thanks for the tips. I had read a bit about Cruz del Sur being a good reputable company. Over night buses will definitely save my wallet more flexing. I will be there for the whole month but I have to agree with you that maybe the north might be a bit out of the question. I wanted to get to Cuzo early as I think it'll start to be getting into the wet season, but knowing that Puerto Maldonado is realistically only accessible by plane really allows me to create a better budget. I can certainly deal with long haul coach trips if I can catch some sleep.

Thank you once again!
