I'm a first time traveller: where to stay in Kathmandu?

I've started traveling on my own 3 years ago and the opportunity to visit Nepal next week came up. Last month, I bumped into the first Filipino to climb Everest and he told me that Nepal is the place to be. I'm a working student who sold clothes and books to buy round-trip airlines tickets, now I have to spend as modestly as possible. HELP!

Frances,
I have never been to Nepal, but used the 'Accommodation' option, left panel here on TP. Select 'budget accomm.', find 'Nepal', then select 'Kathmandu'.

I found 3 that are under $11/nite single. The offers rooms at $8. is $10. The quotes $8 single. I hope this helps with your planning.

From some one that spends a lot of time in Kathmandu. The yellow house off packnajole is the place to stay - free wi- fi all over Thamel not a problem.good luck.

HI,
