I will be flying into Frankfurt am Main airport and I know they have a train that runs to the Hauptbahnhof, but is there a kiosk or something for me to buy a ticket as I will be arriving at 10pm? I plan on staying at the Frankfurt Hostel since it is right across from the Hbf. Has anyone had any experience staying here?
You get the ticket from the vending machine, it is open all night. IIRC the vending machine had English too. Have some EUR in cash at hand. You can get coins by buying some sort of snack or trinket at the airport.
Tip: If you plan to stay for one day in Frankfurt and see the city consider getting the "Frankfurt Welcome Card" for 2 days. It covers public transport in the city as well as to and from the airport and gives big discounts on entry fees to sights. It costs 12,90 EUR and you can get it at the airport in Terminal 1, Arrival Hall B at Fraport AG, Hotels & Tours. With it you won't have to battle with the vending machine ever.
You can order the Frankfurt Welcome Card online, if you are willing to pay for the shipping this will be the best solution.

Thanks for the info. t_maia. I'll probably only be spending the night in Frankfurt and leaving the next day, but if I change my mind, is there anything interesting to see in there? Also about the Hbf, will there be places to eat once I arrive around 11, that's if I get through customs and on the train fast enough.

It's been a while since I was last in Frankfurt, so I am not sure about finding something to eat inside the train station. But I am reasonably certain that you can find some sort of eatery or snack stall that is open until late at night around the train station.

They have good reviews online, they are close to the train station and I looked online and on one website it says that they are open until midnight.
Be careful though, the area around the train station is not the best. Better ask at the hostel reception where not to go.
As for sightseeing: You can cover the main sights in Frankfurt in about 6 hours. It is not that interesting, so no need to hang around. But maybe you can plan on going to Frankfurt am Main and nearby Heidelberg for a few days right before you leave?

Thanks again. I think the kebab place would be great. I ate kebab a few times when I was last in Germany. I might stay a few days depending on when I can access my WG in Freiburg, so maybe I'll try and check the areas around it. Now I just hope there are people with advice on Reykjavik.

It‘s much cheaper if you bring your own sleeping bag, and also winter prices sometimes start in the middle of September so the prices I list might be cheaper if you arrive late September.
If I list the cheapest hostels (with down town Reykjavík location) are:
The Salvation army (http://herinn.is/pages/enhet.aspx?nr=118): Sleeping bag accommodation IKR 3300 IKR. Single Room IKR 8200.
Reykjavík Backpakcers (http://www.reykjavikbackpackers.com/): Sleeping bag accommodation, depends on how many people in a dorm: IKR 3290 – 4290.
Reykjavík HI hostels have two hostels, one downtown on the street Vesturgata, and another 20-30 minutes walk from downtown in Laugardalur, which is a nice place as well (www.hostel.is): IKR 3100, but if you‘re an HI member you pay IKR 2500.
If you want a privete room at a guesthouse, I think the chepaest one is Loki guesthouse (http://loki101.is/): It has a single room for IKR 9000.
Regarding groceries, stay as far away as you can from the store called 10-11, they are conveniently open 24hours but are the most expensive ones! The chepest ones are usually stores called Bónus and Krónan. There is on Bónus store right down town, on the street Hallveigarstígur and it‘s open I think every day from 12:00-18:00. Then there‘s a lot of restaurants, relatively cheap (IKR 700-1500). Just shop around and ask at the hostels. I actually think also that most of the hostels have kitchens as well.
Oh, and remember the two golden rules: Never ever buy water in Iceland, you can drink it from the tap everywhere!!! And buy alchol at the liquore store (Vínbúð), much cheaper.
