First Timer going to Costa Rica and Nica...

I will be going to C.A. for about 2 weeks, kinda curious on what I should bring. I want to pack light, maybe a 40l back pack. I will be visiting Arenal, Monteverde and Volcan Mombacho, Granada, Rivas...what would you bring?

Also I will be going from 10/22/10 thru 11/6/10 what kind of weather should I expect?

Hi, went there from Nov 1st to 15th last year.
I caught the very end of the rain season.
It wasn't so nice for the first 2-3 days. Cloudy. Then when I was on Corn Island (maybe the 3rd or 4th) we got the Huricane (what name was it? was deadly in Panama I believe)... It was kinda "exciting" for us though... A trip experience. Some places were affected in corn island, they had to clean up majorly and some places had to put roofs back on... Maybe some dogs were lost too. :P

Anyhow, just to say that if I were you, I'd consider pushing it a bit later than Oct 22nd, just to make sure, although theorically, the rain season is supposed to be done... but apparently, the last few years, it has been stretching a bit into the "dry season"...

So what you wanna bring? Well, they sell a lot of clothes, cheaper than in Canada or US... So I'd say things like Flip flops or too many t-shirts is not necessary as you can get those for 5$ a piece maximum, even in tourist traps.
40l IMO is on the short side... I'd say 60l would be perfect.
what you can count out:
Anything you find at a drug store without prescription :You don't have to plan for pepto bismol : they have tons everywhere
Moskito reppelent : they have close to non moskito in Nica... they however shoot a lot of toxic stuff... not very fun when they spray it on you as you are walking (true story).
What's cool too is that they sell everything individually. I bought a pack of hand razors before leaving, because here they only sell it in pack... over there, I wouldn't be surprised if you could buy Aspirins individually.
What I brought and might sound useless is : lots of garbage bags. Everytime you jump in a boat or whenever it's raining, you get to pack your backpack in a garbage bag...

What I didn't use : warm clothes, hiking shoes (favored the beach, missed the hikes), repelent, rain coat. it did rain, but damn at over 30C, you dont put a rain coat, you just take the t-shirt off.
What I didn't have enough of : beach shirts (and good luck to find some for sale)... you want to walk with your torso exposed to get some wind, but you don't want to get burnt on the back...

If you like the beach, I would definitely go to San Juan del sur, a cheap stop 2 hours away from Managua.
I would also advise not to plan time in Managua... there is so much to see elsewhere.
