Hello, i arrive in bangkok as my first destination on my itinery, for the first night or so i would like to stay somewhere mid-range just to get myself sorted and have a look around the area etc. If anybody knows of somewhere thats half decent and not too expensive i would be grateful to listen, thank you
- all private room, a wonderful place with wonderful people. In the City Hall area near Khao San Road.
I loved it there!
Several friends have recommended the ; I stayed just near there and it's in a great location.
Both those places above Id rate at the high end flash packer. $70 and up.
If you want something in the same location as Bex's recommendation which as she says is a great place to hang, then try A good room here with rooftop swimming pool will set you back about $20.

What does mid-range mean?? Not everyone has the same price in mind if you mean the price of a hotel room. If you are really young, in school or just out of school maybe Khao San Road will be okay for you. K.S.R. is very popular with young backpackers. If you are slightly older or mature perhaps a room in the Siam or Sukhumvit Road area will do. Sukhumvit has lots of malls, street vendors, nightlife and good restaurants. Both Sukhumit and KSR have hotels in all price ranges. You can get a hotel in Bangkok for over 6000 baht a night making a middle price somewhere around 3000 baht per night. You can also get hotel rooms with air around 600-850 baht. Also a few hostels are available, some of their prices are not that much different than small cheap hotels.
In the Siam and Sukhumvit Road area you also can use the Skytrain to get around the city. The Skytrain is an overhead rail service; no Skytrain in the Khao San Road area!
So read up on Bangkok and decide what area you would like to stay at and mention a price range for your room and you will get several suggestions that match your budget.
Good luck.
