I would say bringing your own laptop while travel saves you the hassle from going to internet cafes. Especially for areas that arent so familiar with.
So, laptops come in handy.
I usually bring my own laptop, saves putting your passwords, plugging your USB drives or camera into an unknown computer that has who knows what on it. Lugging the laptop around is sometimes a hassle, but it can provide entertainment (DVDs, Internet) during periods of prolonged rain and it keeps my accounts more safe so worth the hassle.
I will definitely be taking my laptop.
With a bit of luck I will get some web design work while I am out there
I opt for bringing a laptop, what I was wondering though what do you guys use for security in case it gets stolen?
Hi, I am traveling to Queensland this summer. Most hostels/backpacker lodges have access to internet PCs, I plan on using that.
but as a backup I brought myself an Iphone 4 out right from apple from NZ. Its like 10 things in one.
cell phone/sms, email, www, apps, video, still image. and highly portable. plus many more.
Things to think about, cost me $1100 unlocked.
personally, i think u should bring ur laptop. if you are living in hostels, usually there will be a huge number of DVDs to watch in the hostel's library. some places have free wifi, like in Auckland NZ's library, you get 100Mb free per day. so is Mobil gas station in Tauranga that gives you 400Mb free a day.
I didn't take a laptop for my 12 month round the world trip I reckoned it was too much hastle having to carry it about all the time. I still managed to keep my website up to date for family and friends back home this took about 2 hrs a week. Using libraries for free and Internet cafes and good hotels for Internet banking.

There are 2 problems with bringing a laptop: weight and security. Personally, I like to travel light, and not worry about whether someone is going to snatch my laptop. There are plenty of hotels with PCs you can use, and lots of internet cafes. Unless you plan to do a day-by-day travel blog, you really don't need a laptop.
