Things to do in Washington D.C

Hello my boyfriend and i are going to Washington D.C for two full days from 19th to 20th Feb 2011.

Try Ben's Chili Bowl on U. Street. Also hit the Smithsonian Institutions along the National Mall. they are ALL free as well as the Smithsonian National Zoo which has panda bears, also free.

We do have two recent museums to the town, The International Spy Museum and the Newseum, but they cost a premium.

If you do decide to check out the Washington Monument, you need to get your tickets no later than 0830 or they will be gone. Tickets are free to go in it, but you have to have them to get in.

For cheap eats, try Union Station's lower level, or any of the fine eatery establishments along Penn Ave, SE below the US Capital such as We The Pizza or the Tune Inn.

Book ahead through your Congressman and you can actually visit the White House. Also, you'll want to go see the US Capitol building and the train station (weird I know--but other than the US Capitol, this is the most impressive building in town.)

Also go see the Lincoln, Jefferson, and Franklin Roosevelt buildings if it isn't too cold outside.

In the summer a good place to eat is down at the Fish Market just east of the bridge across the Potomac (the one near the Jefferson Memorial). In the winter, eat in the area near Constitution Avenue and M Street.

The most visited building in the US is the Smithsonian Museum Air and Space Museum.

The FBI building I think also gives tours. One of the largest buildings in the US is the Pentagon, just across the river in Virginia. Also in Virginia, just a short ways south is Mount Vernon--George Washington's home.
