10 days in Mexico

Hi guys,

There is no one answer since everyone's interests are so different and Mexico is so diverse.

Well, the three musts of the Yucatan are Merida, Chichen Itza, and the Cancun area.

Lots of people also like Playa del Carmen, all the other Maya pyramids (old cities) in the Yucatan (of which there are about 30), and some like Izla Mujeres (just off the coast of Cancun City) or Tulum and the other spots/cities south along the eastern edge.

I recommended staying to one area, either the middle of Mexico to see Mexico city or the Yucatan are two great spots. As a resident of the Yucatan, I can tell you that ten days in the yucatan can give you a lot. I'd spend a few days out on the Riviera Maya, then the rest of the time in exploring the interior. There are wonderful, quaint Mexican towns that beg to be explored such as Valladolid, Merida or Izamal. Things are cheaper outside of the Riviera and you really get the best of both worlds. You can experience the beauty of the Riviera then visit the interior and see what the culture of Mexico is really like! It has a very low crime rate, wonderful food, the people are so kind and it is affordable. I'd definitely visit some cenotes, quaint towns and some ruins. The ruins of Chichen Itza are beautiful but it has become very commercialized and packed. Ek Balam or Uxmal are better if you're going to spend some time exploring the area. And staying a night or two in Merida is great to use as a base to check out ruins, cenotes and jungle tours! Check out my photo galleries here:
