I am travelling to Canada to attend a conference in Toronto where I need to be by Thursday 15th September. I would like to do some travelling before then (about 2/3 weeks) and would appreciate any advice, tips, recommendations etc.
My budget is limited so I will be staying in hostels, cheap hotels/bed & breakfast type places....as long as I have my own room.
I thought of starting in Quebec City and making my way to Toronto via Montreal and possibly Ottawa. Ideally I would like to travel via the rivers/lakes/waterways etc and, if necessary as a back-up, use trains & buses.
I am more interested in city/urban life than the countryside......I am not a big 'hiker/camper' type of person but certainly don't mind a bit of the tranqulity of 'rural' life. I generally avoid major tourist sites and much prefer being with 'local' people as opposed to major 'tourist areas'.
I would greatly appreciate any info from people who have done a similar type of trip/journey in the areas mentioned. I look forward to hearing from you.
