kanchanaburi - worth a visit?

just wondered if anyone has been to kanchanaburi and would recommend going, or avoiding it

Yeah, I would definitely say Kanchanaburi is worth a visit, depending on how much time you have. There's a fair few things there, e.g. Bridge over the River Kwai, the Death Railway, Jeath Museum, Cemetery of Allied Soldiers, and the tiger temple is in that area as well I think. You can do them all in a day tour from Bangkok for about 600 baht. But if you do book a tour check what's included as some companies don't include entry fees.

If you're short on time then Chang Mai would rank above Kanchanaburi but if you've got time for two or three days in Bangkok then it's worth doing a day trip to Kanchanaburi.

I liked it, even though I had a little moped accident there that I still carry the scars of...

The bridge is obviously the main attraction, but I thought was also pretty fun. And some of my best photos from Thailand are from a 7-step (as in the waterfall has 7 steps, the hike is a few hours ) waterfall hike nearby. Just looked it up and it's called the Erawan waterfalls. There's a of it.

i went to kanchanaburi woth my husband disember 2010. it's worth to visit and the hotel is not expensive. about usd10 per night you can get good hotel rooms
