Im currently planning an RTW starting in Feb 2012, for about 3-4 months of it were travelling through SE.Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, all the way through to singapore) all overland. We were currently considering maybe adding philippines to out itinerary?

I've not really done any SE Asia travelling but my mum is from the phillipines so I have been a far fee times!!! It's really beautiful and cheap once your there, also it's very popular for people who like diving!! I'm not really sure how long you would need but there's lots of amazing islands and people are so friendly!!!

It's cheap, it's great and perhaps the most under visited area in SE Asia. I'd highly recommend it. It is a big place, but Cebu Pacific has great fares. We flew from Bangkok to Manilla for about $35 each way and flights inside the country when we were island hopping were less than $25 roundtrip.

I would insert the philippines and burma into my itinerary and save less time for cambodia and malaysia. I personally did not like vietnam at all.
But where ever you go you will have a great time and you will probably change your route on the road many times anyways.

I totally disagree with this, there are some great areas to visit in Manila, such as and , among many other things!
Besides this, Manila is a perfect jumping off point for N-Luzon.
