O.K.... First up I will let you know that I am a female in her 40's (no Nanna here ) who is travelling to Pattaya on her own.
Why, again, are you going to Pattaya?
There is plenty to do in Pattaya for single gals or families. You might want to visit the while there. If you like animals, a day out at might be worth your time. covers my day trip to Koh Larn. Much better beach experience than Pattaya Bay or Jomtien. There is more to Pattaya than bars and girls. Good luck with your planning.

I'm totally not interested in the bars or the sex industry, been there done that, but more about getting out there and exploring new places.
I believe Walking Street is a must, which is fine and I'll be exposed to all of that. What I would like know is can anyone recommend some great places to see and visit whilst I'm in Pattaya, apart from the normal tourist options.
I'm thinking of going out to the island off Pattaya Beach is it worth it, Ive heard good and bad reports ?
Cheers !
Over the past few years there have been more and more single women and family groups visiting Pattaya than ever before because it is good value! You always hear about bars but you may not know that there are many new huge malls that are full of female tourists and family groups in the evenings. They didn't make all of those fancy malls just for guys interested in the nightlife. Some tourists return year after year just to relax and take it easy in hotels that are cheaper than Bangkok and Phuket.
In Pattaya the local transportation is primarily by baht buses. The price is only 10 baht for the set routes. You wave a moving baht bus over and hop on. When you get to where you need to go you ring the bell to stop the ride. You hand over the 10 baht. Have coins available. If you tell the driver where to go you pay a custom ride. Usually you can get to most places for the 10 baht or get off and get on another bus to change direction but pay another 10 baht. Avoid parked baht buses in front of malls or expensive hotels because they will want to bargain the price of the ride and you will pay a lot more.
Koh Larn can be reached by ferry boat ride from the Bali Hai Pier which is at the end of Walking Street. Buy the ticket inside the building, the price is 30 baht. Do not buy the ticket from touts outside unless you really like to pay more for the same ticket. Even if you do not actually do anything in Koh Larn I think the ferry ride is worth the time. You can get a good sunburn on that ferry boat ride so grease up.
Flight of the Gibbons is a new tourist attraction that is popular.
Google up "jet ski scams Pattaya" to get some info on that sport before you rent! My advice is to NOT drive when in Pattaya or Bangkok unless you are very experienced in Asia. Too many motor bike accidents involving tourists.
Like Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket you can get tours through local travel agencies.
From Bangkok you can take a bus from the Ekamai bus terminal for around 115 baht. The ride is around 2 hours, get the tickets inside, right hand side of the building.
Two bus companies are available from the airport but last chance is 10 pm. (Bell Travel and Bus 389.)
If you choose a hotel not far from Pattaya Sai Song (Second Road) you can walk to many places.
Good luck.
