5 months, best travel route?

Im in need of help!!

Hi there

If you find out a good route, then let me know please!!! I am seriously struggling with a similar dilemma - seen countless times that less is more but there is so much I want to see in SE Asia and struggling to plot a realistic route as the land mass is such, it'll be easy to miss great places out

You going on your own or with a group?

Cheers

Si

I loved all of SE Asia and Indonesia is definitely worth visiting but your itinerary would depend on your time frame - how long do you have?

Bex,
There was a clue in the title. '5 months, best travel route'. I may be wrong, but I will go with 5 months!

'beyall',
You have enough time for all your countries, but I am concerned about your budget. Most spend roughly $1K/month while bumping around SEA. You are right at the minimum needed for a 5 month SEA adventure. You will need to economize the entire trip.

In Cambodia & Laos, you will use buses as the train is not an option. I would use the bus system while in VN. In Thailand you do have a choice between rail & buses. Buses are generally cheaper than rail. might be a good choice between some cities as well.

Now route. I would see BKK, then Northern Thailand. Go into Laos at the Friendship Bridge, visa on arrival. Buy your VN visa while in Vientiane. Into VN, then open tour down to HCMC. Bus from HCMC to PP. covers my bus trip tp PP. up to Siem Reap, bus is cheaper. One long day back to BKK after Angkor Wat. If you need more than 15 days in Tland, you will either have to buy a visa while in PP or fly: PNH-BKK.

I would then head south for to the Thai beaches. The i area would be my choice, plenty of beautiful beaches you can day trip. are worth visiting as well. Overnight bus saves 1 nights accommodation and gets you there early am. Best time to find a room. You can fly to Indonesia on from Phuket or tour Malaysia & Singapore and fly from SIN.

Good luck with your planning.

Ha, yeah I guess that's a fairly big giveaway! That will teach me to do some work instead of paying sneaking visits to TP throughout the day!

In light of that then, I agree with Mike that you do have enough time for all countries including Indonesia; you can cover the hightlights of Java and Bali in around 2 weeks.

Becky,
Almost all my mistakes have been while I was in a hurry to: leave the house, get to another task. Or try to do 3 things at once. Post on TP, talk on the phone and eat, all at the same time. No wonder we make mistakes! Oh well, hopefully members will cut us some slack when we screw up!

I hope all is well in NZ. Mike

Hi all

Any suggestions for a cheap luggage storage for approx. 30 days anywhere in Kuala Lumpur? We found only lockers at the airport, but they are expensive, RM40 per day...
does anyone know something cheaper???

we're gonna have a big tour of Malaysia and Indonesia before heading off to Turkey for 3 more weeks. so we'll have loads of winter clothes that we won't need...

Thanks in advance!!!

Cheers :-)

Hello Beyall,
I am Wanber living in Austin, Texas. And I would like to suggest you something. You must go to Thailand first. And it has many tourist spots, which have a gravity in them to pull your attentions. One of friends had just got back from Thailand and narrated his tale. He had gone along with his wife to Thailand on his business tour and got a holiday package package from-snip- one of the luxurious lodges located near Chiang Mai. They had been accommodated in that lodge and moved around and had a nice time in that country.
I would like you to be there first and enjoy the peacefulness of those cities.
