RTW on motorbike

Hi there,

There are almost no serious long distance bikers on this forum.

Post here: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/

Have fun and rubber-side down...

Cheers,
Terry

I've owned a GS1200 and done a few long distance trips on it. It's a great bike, but wouldnt be my first choice to go around the world. It's ok if you are Ewen Mcgregor and have a film crew driving behind you, but if you drop that bike fully loaded, you will never pick it up by yourself. Plus if anything goes wrong mechanically, there is no way you will get parts for it. You'll need to carry tires too since you can't find that size in anywhere but the biggest citys.

All I can say is do a lot of research. You'll need to sort out the carnets before you head off and in some cases hit deadlines in and out. Along with arranging all your shipping ahead of time.

A better site than Horizons is

Hi there,

I am from westren Europe and I am planning an RTW trip on my motorbike.
Is there anybody around with the same dream (plans)?
Jus let me know, so we can share our plans and maybe travel a while together.
My plans are going to the east, Azia, Australia-New Sealand, south America, midle and North America.
I am 40 years old and calculated budget is 60.000€ (ex motorbike BMW gs 1200 adventure) allready have.

I plan a rtw with an 1150adv, alone, 2013.
i will leave from romania. i cannot say if i'll drive south of black sea, but most probably, moldova, ukraine, russia, kazahstan, mongolia, russia (cannot say magadan or vladivostok), then fly to n. america. I wuld like alaska, but what i read in the internet, most probably vancouver. cross america, and i hope to get a good deal from halifax. this is gross.

as training, next year i plan a nordkapp trip in detail.
bucharest-chisinau-kiev-minsk-vilnius-riga-talinn-helsinki-oulu-nordkapp-coming back on the other way thru germany. 9400km 2 weeks tops
alone as well

if you want i can share the waypoint/destinations and we can meet on the way even ride together, but i dont want to rely on anybody
