Tour of Louisiana and states around... advice?

If you can get to the Angola State Prison Rodeo, I would highly suggest it. It's unlike any other entertainment even I have ever been to.

It's a little bit out of the way (Louisiana State Penitentiary), but well worth the drive in my opinion. You'll have one chance to get there though because it's only on Sundays in October!

If any one get information regarding Things to do in New Orleans then you can visit -snip- to know more about current latest events and more news for Orleans.

Sorry, but I only saw this post today. Nevertheless, I thought I should list a few things besides prisons to see:

In New Orleans, the French Quarter is of course the most famous spot--with its Bourbon Street and multiple restaurants and French Market and Jackson Square that is most notable--but there are multiple architectural tours of areas nearby just west of here in the town. Also, right next to the French Quarter are a few cemetaries to visit during the daytime where famous voodoo "witchdoctors and goddesses" are buried.

I would also consider taking a tour of the many plantations along the river between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. One of the best is the Oak Alley in Napoleonville. The largest concentration of plantations which can be toured will be found in the city of Natchez, Louisiana. North of Baton Rouge along the river is the city of Vicksburg--site of a famous civil war battle--and a town built high up on a ridge overlooking the river.

It was the fall of Vicksburg to Grant's Western Army (he later took over the eastern army) and the simultaneous victory of the Northern troops over Lee's southern troops at the battle of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania (both of which happened on July 4, 1863--July 4th being the American Independence Day) that led ultimately to the victory of the Union forces in that war.
