Just wondering I am planning on leaving Ireland in April at the latest and making my way to NZ to work for a year and then making my way home. I want to go to Asia & South East Asia one on the way and one on the way home but I am not sure which way to do it.
I would like to do Asia first because it is alot easier to travel than south america, but the weather is meant to be crap for that time of year. has anyone been to asia in april, may, june, july months and thought it was awful or am i been ridculous??
You will have more heat or rain depending on where you are located. Some areas will get a little more and some are not too bad. Most of the time the rain will stop in a couple hours or so. Hotels will be cheaper than "high season" November through February.
For Thailand many tourists prefer this time of year to travel. The foliage is greener and cleaner looking. Hotels have more vacancies with good prices. Some problems with flooding could occur depending on where you are. Usually this is just until the drains can handle the downpour. Depending on where you start the beginning of your trip could be a little hot. But drink fluids, seek shade, etc. You will adjust.

When I lived in Vietnam the rain would always come at lunch time and at supper time. In Thailand I am one of the people who prefer the rainy season. Fewer tourists around!
You must investigate the various visas you need for each country you intend to visit. With Irish passport you can get into Thailand for free for 30 days and a little longer for Malaysia. But the Communist (or former) Communist countries you will have to pay. Google check will give you some more info on weather and visas.

Albert gave you good advice. I would go and deal with the weather encountered. From May on is considered 'low season in Thailand & VN. Fewer tourists mean lower prices for rooms, easier to book trains, buses, tours, etc. Generally it starts to rain more from June on. However, there might be parts of VN or Thailand that are not having as much rain as other parts of the country. Go and be flexible with your route is my best advice.
